WILD AND PRECIOUS LIFE
AUTHOR READS AN EXCERPT
Author, Deborah Ziegler, takes a deep breath and pushes past camera anxiety to talk about being a mother, losing her only child, Brittany, and why she wrote a memoir. She also reads a scene from Chapter 19 of Wild and Precious Life. The author suggests that reading about her journey with her daughter might help readers cherish the most exquisite gift they have – life itself.
“The Summer Day” (aka “The Grasshopper”)
The poem, The Summer Day, by Mary Oliver, meant a great deal to my daughter Brittany. In fact, in the last months of her life Brittany read many of Mary Oliver’s poignant poems. There is no way to properly thank Ms. Oliver enough for the comfort and exquisite beauty that her words brought both of us. Brittany died listening to me read Mary Oliver’s poetry.
